Mode Selections

Taken straight from the Shaiya Website, but alot of people ask about it so I thought I’d copy and paste it over.

Easy Mode - Think of Easy mode as a tutorial. Leveling is fast as little XP (experience points) is needed to progress. However, Easy mode is capped at level 30, you cannot join nor create a guild in Easy mode, and the Special Skills in classes are not available. You are also unable to use items labeled Dread, Legend, or Goddess. You gain 5 Stat points (to increase your basic character attributes) and 3 Skill Points (to gain new skills or increase current skills) per level while in Easy mode. You are also unable to use armor or weapons labeled Dread, Legend, or Goddess.

Normal Mode - Normal mode is where most players will begin. You need more experience to gain levels than in Easy, but the level cap is now 60. You are able to use all items usable in Easy mode, plus you are able to use Dread items. You gain the same Stat and skill points as in Easy mode; 5 Stat and 3 Skill per level. At level 50 you are allowed to now create Hard Mode characters.

Hard Mode - You will need more experience than you did in Normal to gain levels, but the rewards are also greater. The level cap is 60, and at 60 you are allowed to create Ultimate Mode characters. You can use all the items you could in Normal, but now you can also use Legend items. You gain 7 Stat points and 4 Skill points per level.

Ultimate Mode - The pinnacle of power is Ultimate Mode. Gaining levels takes skill and patience. The level cap is 60. Your increased stat and skill points here will make your character the most powerful possible: 9 Stat points and 5 Skill points per level. You can use all items in the game, including the devastating Goddess weapons. However, this power comes at a cost: if your character dies, you have only 3 minutes to be resurrected… or your character is deleted and you must start all over.

New to the game, here is a guide.

The difficulty modes!

I want to explain this feature a little before I go into exactly what each one does. There are 4 modes of play. Easy, Normal, Hard and Ultimate.
There is good reasoning behind this. The casual player can come in and play easy mode, never play a harder difficulty and be perfectly happy with pvp in the 20-30 zone. There will likely be a whole group of people that do this. The stats and skills are exactly the same as in Normal mode.
On normal difficulty you need more exp to level but you can level all the way to lv 50. This mode will be the sweet spot for the gamer that wants the massive 1500 on 1500 pvp in the end game pvp map, but really doesn’t care about grinding out in a harder difficulty just for more stats. The hard mode is for the gamer that wants a more powerful char and doesn’t mind grinding a bit to get it. Ultimate difficulty is for the same gamers as hard because the exp is the same, the only difference is the goddess weapon usage and perma death. In ultimate if you die, you die permanently if you are not resurrected within 3 minutes. (Even in PVP, despite what the other guide says.) This mode will be for the same users that are playing Hard Mode, except these will be the guys making use of the item shop, since there is an item that allows you to NOT have perma death.

Easy - For the casual player. Lv cap is 30. Exp needed to level is super easy. Also for any player that just wants to test out a character to see if they like it. Since you level so easy you can get the skills faster and see if you will like the character.

Normal - For the gamer that wants lv 50. Also for those that eventually want to get to Hard mode. There will be a group that will stop at the lv cap here and not ever play Hard. Lv 50 here unlocks the ability to create a hard mode character.

Hard - For the character looking to get lv 60 and doesn’t mind a bit of grind. These are the gamers that want more power and more skills as Hard adds new skills to each class. People that don’t use the item shop will stop here as perma death in Ultimate is a deterrent for those that don’t want to buy the item. Lv 60 here unlocks the ability to create and ultimate mode character.

Ultimate - For the Hardcore gamer. This is where you’ll see people that use the item shop, because they will be buying the item that allows you not to lose your character. Ultimate has a cap of lv 60 and allows you to use Goddess Weapons. Exp needed to level is the same as Hard mode.

In the end, the different modes are for different kinds of players. Choose yours style and then shoot for it.

Questing

Yellow dots on your map are npc’s where you can find quests. Blue dots on your map are where you go to turn in quests.

If you’re having trouble finding a mob for a quest, there are a couple things you can do. You can look to one of the maps on the forums that show you where they all are. Or you can look at your quest window.

I know there are some quests that don’t say where they are but most of them do. You don’t need to read the whole quest text. There is a handy condensed version of what you need on the bottom left of the quest screen. Just scroll through that and it will usually tell you exactly what mob and how to find them. Usually says something like this: You need to kill Rough large boars. (Name of mob is in color). Then it will say: You can find Rough Large boars if you exit the camp to the east. Most people don’t know about the bottom left part of the quest screen or just don’t want to read it not realizing it gives you in a nutshell exactly what you need to do.

I have seen a lot of people ask if they should do the quests in this game or not. I would advise that you do complete the quests. The only ones I ever skipped are from the opposite starter town for the other race. My reasoning is that this will take you to the mobs you should be fighting. One of the most efficient ways to play this game is when a quest sends you to a green mob that you not only finish the quest, but you stay there and level on them. Later on in levels you will want to be fighting yellows but in the first map you will be fighting mostly greens.

At higher levels, you will only be getting 1 to 3 quests per level. You will want to do them because they will lessen your grind. For instance, you ding, you get new quests, and you go out and do those quests and end up with about 10% toward your next level. At higher levels that lessening the amount of mobs you must kill by about 150-200 kills. It really does help.

Mob Colors

Easiest to Hardest:
White (no exp), Light Blue, Blue, Green (even level), Yellow (slightly above you), Orange, Purple, Red, Grey.

Goddess Blessing

The Goddess Blessing, (the bar on the bottom right of your screen) is the perks we get for PvP. If you hold your mouse over it at any given time, you will see exactly what we are getting at that moment. This bar affects all users for your faction. It’s not independent per user. As your faction wins in PvP, (taking alters and getting kills) the bar rises. The further up it goes the more effects you get. From a faster Hp, Mp, and Sp regeneration rate all the way to better % success rate when adding lapis to your equipment.

When the bar reaches the top, we get the full Goddess blessing, this heightens and strengthens every affect you see on that bar when you hover your mouse over it. You will crit more, your Hp, MP, and Sp will feel almost infinite as you run to your next mob they will all regenerate very fast.

Now, the actual goddess blessing is not needed to receive affects, you get the affects listed when you hover the mouse over that bar, be it at 20% or 80%. Most people will find that they like it up past the 80% mark. It is at that point that you have very good regeneration and won’t be resting much or potting much at all. Once we get the goddess blessing it does heighten the affects and is much better but the bar then continuously drops until all the blessing is gone. At that point there is almost no regeneration for your character and you will be resting and using pots a whole lot more. This is why I find it to be perfect when the bar hits past the 80% mark and slows down. Either way, the blessing is good for all.

Lapis

In this game you can add Lapis to your equipment for various affects. The higher the lv lapis, the lower the % of success. In order to add lapis to your equipment that equipment must be slotted. You then take that equipment to a blacksmith, choose repair, then choose link lapis. You will then insert the item you want to get the lapis, the lapis you want to use and a linking hammer if you have one. It’s not needed but it adds more % to success rate.

Most people will wait for a goddess blessing in order to try to link their lapis because the blessing offers up a better % of success.

You can not lose your equipment when trying to link a lapis, but the lapis does break if you fail after a certain lv lapis.

Things to note:

Helms are at lv 30. You will get all your helms from quests. The first quest being at lv 29. The second will be at lv 36, and the third will be at lv 43. Higher than that I am unsure.

For the first helm quest you will need to have 30 spirit cores. SAVE them.
For the second helm quest you will need to have 30 Mare Core. SAVE them.
For the third helm quest you will need 30 Pint Core. SAVE them.

The first epic weapon quest is at lv 25. Found in starfumos.
Each class has a mob to kill for this quest. Go kill it and get your weapon. Simple.
This weapon glows and adds 20 to your classes’ main stat and 4 and 5 to all others.
YOU MUST DO THIS QUEST. I say that because the weapon is so good, you will not be able to replace it for many levels. I was still using mine at lv 41.

The second epic weapon quest is a bit tougher than the first quest. This will have you going around to multiple maps completing quests. These are mostly item gathering quests. One NPC will want a certain number of three things and the next will want a certain number of another three things.

I haven’t finished this quest line but HERE ARE THE FEW ITEMS THAT I DO KNOW YOU SHOULD NOT SELL.
(sorry if they are spelled wrong, but you get the idea)
Magic leather (15)
Spirit Core (30) yes that means you need a total of 60 of those eventually.
Adamars stone (15)
You will need silk, but I do not know what silk it is you need as I think it’s the next part.

Many of these items you will be able to buy from a vendor, but not the ones I listed so far.
Items from the vendor are things like, 99 gold abel.

I hope this guide helps some people. If you think I should add a section just let me know with a reply. If I made a mistake also please let me know.

Kenshins Mage/Pagan Guide

Tuesday, January 1st, 2008

NOTE**- This is a guide made from my experience as a Mage on Shaiya. It is only a guide for players to read, and then see if it works for them and comment on (xD). . Please feel Free to comment and criticize. It took me a few months to complete this guide (Played Shaiya China).. so please.. comment. theres a lot of info in this.

First things first. Pagans and Mages are the same. Pagans are part of the Union of Fury. The Vail are given the choice of becoming Pagans. Mages are part of the Alliance of Light. Elves are given the choice of becoming Mages. Each Class on Shaiya has a Counter Class. Therefore: All Alliance Of Light Classes are Available to Union Of Fury Member.. The only difference is the names.

Alliance Of Light Classes And Their Counter Classes:
Mage = Pagan
Archer = Hunter
Ranger = Assassin
Fighter = Warrior
Defender = Guardian
Priest = Oracle

I’ll be giving Breaf Explainations on Stats, outlining some Builds, giving tips on levelling, what skills to get, useful items, mobbing and ofcource.. PVP Strategies to help you live Smile.

Stats in Shaiya

Strength(Also Known As Str) - Physical Attack Power, Ranged Attack Power
Rec. Defense(Also Known As Rec) - Physical Defense power, Ranged Defence Power, Total Hitpoints (HP)(The Red Bar.)
Intelligence(Also Known As Int) - Magic Attack Power
Wisdom(Also Known As Wis) - Magic Defensive Power, Magic Hit Rate, Total Magical Power (MP)(The Blue Bar)
Dexterity(Also Known As Dex) - Evasion Rate, Hit Rate, And Stamina (SP)(The Yellow Bar)
Luck- Ranged Attack power,Critical Hit Rate, Maximum Critical Attack Damage.

The Only TRULY useless Stat for mages is Strength. Mages Do Not use Physical Attacks.. EVER.. They have no need to physically attack when they can do 50 damage at level 1 using magic Smile.

The Difficulty Modes:
Easy Mode
Normal Mode
Hard Mode
Ultimate Mode

Explaination of Difficulty Modes:
Easy Mode- Maximum Level 30. You gain 3 Skill Points and 5 Stat Points every level up. You Cannot Use Special Skills. Very Easy To Level. Not Recommended for ANYONE.
Normal Mode- Maximum Level 60. You gain 3 Skill Points and 5 Stat Points Every Level. Special Skills Enabled. Good Levelling Rate. Recommended Starting Difficulty. Level 50 Required To Unlock Hard Mode
Hard Mode- Maximum Level 60. You gain 4 Skill Points and 7 Stat Points Every Level. Special Skills Enabled. Bonus Skill (Hard Mode and Ultimate Skill mode Skill) Enabled. Slower Levelling Rate. Will require grinding. Level 60 Required to Unlock Ultimate Mode.
Ultimate Mode- Maximum Level 60. You gain 5 Skill Points Every Level. Special Skills Enabled. Bonus Skills (Hard and Ultimate Mode ONLY) Enabled. Slower Levelling Rate. If you Die in this difficulty, you will have to start from level 1. Recommended Hunting Strategy-> PARTY WITH PRIESTS AND DEFENDERS!

Builds:
Builds are NEVER absolute so feel free to mix em up to fit your playing style. The following builds are only guidelines.

RECOMMENDED Builds:
Normal Mode- Int Mage, Rec Mage.
Hard Mode- Int Mage, Rec Mage, Hybrid.
Ultimate Mode- Int Mage, Luck Mage, Hybrid.
The point of normal mode is to get a character to lvl 50. Int mage most efficiently serves this purpose, particularly w/ defender. Rec mages lvl fast too, and it’s better for soloing.

Int-mage:
Positive: Very High Attacks and VERY fast Levelling.
Negative : Very Low Hp, Low Evasion, Low Hit Rate….sigh..
Levelling Recommendations: Solo Hunt (1 at a time). Party Hunt with a Defender. (Mobbing). IF you are party hunting, Go for the Yellow named mobs.
Stat Distribution:
Normal ModePure Intelligence OR 4 Int 1 Wis (for mp). Follow the 4:1 path UNTIL you feel you have Sufficient MP.
Hard Mode- 6:1 Build- 6 int 1 Wis. Once again. Add Wis until you have enough Mp. Then continue with All Int. 5:2 Build- Add 5 int, 1 Wis and 1 Rec. This will give you Mp and Hp along with some Defensive Power While keeping your attack High.
Ultimate Mode- 7:2 Build-. 7 Int 1 Wis 1 Rec. Once again, This will give you Mp, Hp, and Defensive Power while keeping your attack HIGH. (1 wis, 1 rec)

Rec-mage:
Positive: Very High Defense, High Hp, Great For Soloing, Easy Money
Negative: Medium-> Low Attack Power (physical and Magic). HIGHLY reliant on AoE Attacks.
Leveling Path: Solo Green monster Mobs that use Physical Attacks. If you attempt to fight Magic using monsters, you will die. Lure a lot of them (4+), You will get almost no damage, Use AoE Attack. Party Hunting is NOT recommended, you won’t be much help to them, and your experience gained will drop. Best to keep soloing Green mobs, you won’t die and you will get a significant amount of money to buy equipment and items that can help you increase your attack power.
Stat Distribution:
Normal Mode: 4:1 Build. 4 Rec 1 Int or Wis (alternate every level. ex: Odd level = int, even level= wis). Gives you High Defense and Hp while SLOWLY increasing your Mp and Magic Attack Power.
Hard mode: 6:1 Build. 6 Rec, 1 int or wis. (alternate every level. ex: Odd level = int, even level= wis). Gives you High Defense and Hp while SLOWLY increasing your Mp and Magic Attack Power. 5:2 Build. 5 Rec, 1 Int, 1 Wis. SLIGHTLY less Defense in this one BUT more Magic Attack Power and MP.
Ultimate Mode: 7:2 Build- 7 Rec, 1 Int 1 Wis. High Defense, Slowly and steadily rising Mp and Magic Attack Power
NOTE- REC build is NOT recommended for ULTIMATE mode.

Luck mage

Positive: HIGH Crit Rate, High Crit Damage, HIGHEST ATTACK BUILD!
Cons: SLOW Levelling Rate. Reliant on AoE’s in PARTIES ONLY..otherwise single monster magic.
Leveling Path:Grind On Green Monsters. One at a Time. Its a very SLOW and Painstaking process but its VERY useful in later levels when ur doing 900-1k+ while others are doing 700. The power of this build is only expressed in high levels. Youd be best off in a party with a defender using AoE’s. The OTHER option is Levelling up as an INT or Rec Mage and then buying a Stat Reset from the Cash Shop.
Stats:
Normal Mode: 4:1 Build- 4 Luck, 1 Int or Wis (alternate Every other level). Starts rise of Crit Rate, and SLOWLY raises magic attack power and Mp.
Hard Mode: 6:1 Build- 4 Luck 1 int or wis. Same as before.
5:2 build- 5 Luck 1 Int 1 Wis. This build gives a steady increase to magic attack power and Mp.
Ultimate Mode: 6:3 Build- 6 Luck 1 Int 1 Wis 1 Rec/Dex. This is to give Some Defensive power, evasion, hp, hit rate, along with Mp, Magic Attack, and Crits. 7:2 Build- 7 Luck 1 Int 1 Wis. This gives more Crits but Less Hp and Evasion.

Hybrid mages
- A Hybrid Mage is basically, Any build you prefer. Its your mix up.
My Build was:
3 Int, 1 Wis, 1 Rec Until 20 Rec. Then i switched to 3 Int 1 Wis 1 Luk till 40 Wis, and then went to 3 int 2 Luk. With 40 wis i had a sufficient amount of mp. I added Rec at earlier levels to help me with some hp.

Last Notes- Do Not Try a Dex Build. It SUCKS. i remade my char cause i kept dying with a dex build.

Leveling:
You should ALWAYS start out Soloing. NEVER try to tank mobs during your first few levels… even if you are a Rec Mage.. Your Plan of attack should be *cast spell, Run right. Cast Spell. Run Forwad. cast Spell. Run Left. Cast Spell, Run to starting point and Repeat. Only Run if the mob is near you or HITTING you…. Distance is EVERYTHING to a mage… because he doesn’t want to die. Eventually, Rec Build Mages don’t have to run because they will recieve almost no damage from mobs but the int builds and every other build should still care. As For pots, Only use them when your in a really tight spot. There is a 30 second delay on all pots.
Remember. You can JUMP and Swim. IF you swim into the water (little past shore) the monsters will STOP following you.

Mob Advice:
Int Build Mage- Isolated Mobs. Best to avoid aoeing and gathering groups of mobs. Isolated mobs prevent this from happening.
Rec Build Mage- Crowded Areas. AoE The Large Crowd from afar. Best to save your Hp so you can hunt more and rest less.

Questions:
My skills keep getting interrupted/ I don’t have enough time to cast my spells?
Some Skills take a long time to cast and skills can be interupted by (1) Getting Hit or (2) Moving before the skill is cast. Its Highly suggested you avoid 1 if not both.
Is there a way to DODGE the attacks?
Yes There Is.Double Tapping S will cause you to move Back (This will also dodge) , Pressing Q will Enable you to Dodge to the Left, And Pressing E Will Enable you to dodge to the Right. Dodging Is not an easy skill to master. It Takes time and Patience.. and Timing.
Mobs get too close before I kill them. Is there a way to do more damage??
Yes There is. Pay Close attention to the Monsters Element. If you use Spells that are against its element, you will do more damage. Another thing to keep in mind is the Cast time of your spell. make sure you are far enough from to monster to cast the spell before you try it. Casting the spell with the longest cast time first is a very good strategy.

Elemental Resistance Chart:
fire >> wind >> earth >> water >> fire

Tornado - Max This

Items:
Mages Can Equip Staffs and Daggers.
Normal mode -> Get a staff for sure
Later modes -> Get A staff and Put a Wisdom Lapis on it.

Daggers do Significantly lower damage and are a waste.
Better Gear Has more Slots Mages need Int, Wis, Dex, Rec, and / or Luck Lapis. Pick the Lapis that will Help you the MOST.

Mob Level Explaination:

White - 6 Or More Levels below you , You will receive NO Exp
Light Blue - 4 to 5 Levels below you, You will receive some Exp
Blue - 2 to 3 Levels below you, You will receive some Exp

Pink - 8 to 9 Levels Above you, You will receive an amazing amount of Exp
Grey - 10 or more Levels Above you, You will die trying..

PvP Strategies
My Personal Experience-> Mages are not really built for PVP. Their only PVP strategy is to Hang back and attack the enemy that is already engaged. If you encounter an assassin or a ranger.. RUN!!!..

Against a Priest/Oracle -Only True strategy is to attack with your best attacks. Just use a stun spell or 2 to get an advantage and keep blasting away. Their Only retaliation will be spells against you. Priests/Oracles have lots of Wisdom and you will do low damage on them but stand strong. The Fight will be VERY Close.

Against a Ranger/Assassin - Strategy-> RUN!!!. Rangers/Assassins are great for pvp if not the best. They’re skills have all kinds of status effects on them and they can turn invisible… . You have SOME chance against them But only if you catch them while they are far away.

Against a Archers/Hunters - Not That Great….Unless you have a HUGE amount of mana… They have Mana Draining skills. Some Archers/Hunters may ignore it. The best strategy is to run up next to them and skill away. Stun them first so they can’t run back and fire away!.

Against a Fighter/Warrior - If you see them coming… RUN LIKE THERES NO TOMORROW!!!! Then Stun Spell.. Then use any Instant cast you can.. and RUN AGAIN.. and repeat.. thats the ONLY strategy you have. IF they hit you, you are screwed.

Against a Defender/Guardian - You have little chance of winning this battle. Defenders/Guardians have their builds ready to counter any magic or physical attack. You will do Little Damage on them but the best strategy is to Run, Stun, Cast and Repeat.

I will be adding on more once OB starts and I explore MORE into the Mage Class. Until then, please comment.

FIRST EDIT: Fixed a few typos.

Ultimate Mage Guide by aerialwings

Wednesday, December 19th, 2007

This guide is meant to be a guide only, nothing is absolute. Feel free to experiment. My hopes are that it will stop people from making the most fundamental mistakes, and to help people get an idea on how to build a mage character. My experience comes from playing Shaiya China, and of course, closed beta. This guide is pretty long, so use the overview and skip to the section you want to read ^^

Note: There is no difference between mages and pagans, except that one’s elf and the other is vail.

Stats in Shaiya

Strength(str) - phys. atk [useless for mages]
Rec. Defense(rec) - phys. defense, ranged defense, every rec pt adds 5 hp <— the red bar
Intelligence(int) - mag. atk
Wisdom(wis) - mag. defense, mag. hit rate, every wis pt adds 5 mp <— the blue bar
Dexterity(dex) - evasion, hit rate, every dex pt adds 5 stamina point <— the yellow bar
Luck(luck) - range atk, crit rate, max crit dmg

easy mode (max lvl 30), every lvl = 3 skill pts, 5 stat pts
normal mode, every lvl = 3 skill pts, 5 stat pts
difficult mode, every lvl = 4 skill pts, 7 stat pts
ultimate mode, every lvl = 5 skill pts, 9 stat pts
lvl 50 normal char is required to unlock difficult mode, lvl 60 difficult char required to unlock ultimate mode

for every lvl a mage gains, 1 int is automatically added

Builds:

Remember, builds are not absolute. It’s all about playing the character most suitable to your style. Also, characters don’t have to be pure. If you accidentally put a few points into dex, luck, or whatever, the character is not ruined! Just no points into str =P. Sometimes, mixed stats work out to be the best. The two recommended types of mages for NORMAL mode are the int-mage and rec-mage. Types for difficult mode: int, rec, hybrid. The types recommended for ultimate modes are int, luck, hybrid.

The point of normal mode is to get a character to lvl 50. Int mage most efficiently serves this purpose, particularly w/ defender. Rec mages lvl fast too, and it’s better for soloing. Shaiya only truly begins in difficult mode =)

Int-mage

Pros: Very high atk, fast lvling
cons: Very low hp, low evasion, low hit rate
Recommended path of lvling: solo or preferably, party with a defender and grind on yellow/orange mobs, or even red if you’re in higher modes. When you’re partying w/defender, make sure that he/she has properly lured mobs before you atk, or else mobs will switch target.
Stats: Pure int, or add in some wis in a 4:1 ratio. You can stop adding wis when you find that you have enough mp to use. Eventually there is a passive that add mp, as well as a skill that converts sp to mp. Pure ints will find themselves drinking lots of mp pots before lvl 25ish due to not enough mp. So therefore, some wis will save you money at early lvls as well. *I personally recommend adding some wisdom!
Later on: do 6:1 (wis), 5:2 (1 wis, 1 rec), or 7:2 (1 wis, 1 rec)

Rec-mage

Pros: high defense, high hp, money-maker, good for soloing
Cons: medium atk
Recommended path of lvling: solo on green mobs that use PHYS. atk (attempting to fight mobs that use mag. atk will be terrible), lure lots of them (at least 5+), you’ll barely take any dmg, then run, then release your AoE skills. the skill fire thorn will help out a lot, because it aggros mobs, and they will take dmg every time they hit you while fire thorn is active. you’ll lvl almost as fast as a pure int. don’t party, it will only reduce exp gained. green mobs won’t cost you much in terms of pots, and you’ll get lots of money off them. use the money to buy a really good weapon to increase your atk.
Stats: Mostly rec, some int/wis. 4:1
Difficult mode: 6:1 (int/wis), 5:2 (1 int, 1 wis) - this build not recommended for ultimate mode

Luck mage
- an interesting build. I’ve heard about its power at later levels, so I put it here as an option. This build is more for later modes when you want to do a different build for fun and power ^^
Pros: amazing crits! highest atk
Cons: slow lvling
Recommended path of lvling: go int-mage or rec-mage, then buy an item mall product that resets stats. or if you don’t want to spend the money, it’s a very slow grind on blues/greens. the amazing crits and misses don’t really show till high lvls. for example, when you have 300 luck pts, your crit rate is only about 50%, but with 400 luck pts, crit rate is almost 80%. so before you crit all the time, you’re weaker than int, rec mages. you also need really good gear in order to lvl decently.
Stats: Mostly luck, some int/wis. You need 500 luck pts, preferably 600 w/ lapis to be a decent luck mage. works out best in ultimate mode, 6:3 or 7:2

Hybrid mages
- a personal combination of stats that you prefer - works best for difficult/ultimate mode
popular types are int/rec, and int/luck. There’s always a few wis pts tossed in there, but very little.

Intuitively, a dex-mage makes sense - dodge rate, right? But this is actually a really crappy build, because everything is low. Low atk, low hp, low mp, low mag. hit rate. Finally, since like luck pts, you need a ton of dex pts to actually dodge a certain % — again, very bad lvling too

Leveling:

In general, mages should kite, especially at early levels. I see the new mages standing there and trying to tank mobs. Nooo! You should cast, cast again, run away if mob is near or hits you, then cast again. Particularly as a ranged class, distance is important. Eventually, rec-mages don’t have to care anymore; they can tank somewhat. Shaiya is also not a potting game. Pots have 30 second delay time, so it’s heals, and then you can’t heal again until 30 secs later. Be prepared, and drink that pot as soon as you feel some pressure. Don’t wait. Another general thing some people don’t realize is that you can jump and swim in the game. When trying to get to your favorite grind spot, save time by jumping over things or swimming.

There’s a lot of complaint going on about skill interruptions and mages being a weak class. Before you complain, you should reflect first ^^ Except doing PvP, PvE should be no problem for you~

Are you picking the mob in the most strategic location?
Int-mages, always pick the most isolated and distant one, to allow for maximum number of casts and to avoid AoE’s surrounding mobs. Rec-mages, cast your AoE’s into most crowded place, but, you should not run into most crowded area.
My skills keep getting interrupted/ I don’t have enough time to cast my spells?
Remember, skills mostly interrupt by either 1)a mob hitting you, or 2)you run before the skill finishes casting. Avoid doing either, and if surrounded by lots of mobs, keep an eye on the hp bar and run in circles. A higher level technique is to dogde- double hitting S (dodge back), Q (dodge left), E (dodge right).
Mobs get too close before I kill them?
Take note of elemental resistance! Use the skills that deal most damage on a particular mob. Finally, know the cast times of your spells! Cast the one that takes the longest first (when you have max distance), and the instant one last.

Skills:

I hope to post up a more complete list up later, for now, there’s a skill list in the general forum.

Skill Recommendations:

These recommendations are mainly for normal mode. In difficult/ultimate mode, you have more sp, so this becomes less significant. Skill names are off, since I translated skills from Chinese. Please correct me on the skill names =) When I say meh, you can pass or get 1 level to try it out, and again, it matters less in later modes.

Passives: Dagger power up - (useless, unless you plan on using daggers)
Mana training - adds mp, max
Relax body - improves hp/mp/sp recovery rate (lvl 2, or max if u have the sp)
Backpack - adds inventory space (get lvl 1, maybe lvl 2, depends on need)
Interpretation - allows you to understand language of other side (useless)

Basic: Magic ball - max (good finishing skill)
Self protection - max
Fireball - lvl 1
Sonic pole- lvl 2 or 3
Ensnare Roots - if you like to pk, max this
Magic Drain - useless

Attack: Fire thorn - rec-mages, max this skill. Int-mages, stay away!
Fire wall - useless, rec-mages - lvl it if u have sp
Storm - max
Falling Stone - lvl 2
HP drain - meh, 75% success rate btw
Revenge (ultimate mode) - good pk skill, only 85% success rate though, if you get it, then max it, no point in getting only lvl 1 or 2
Corruption - meh, low dmg over time
Meteor Strike - lvl 2 or max (some ppl love the dmg, while others hate the cast time)
Earthquake - lvl 1 or 2
Lightning Strike - max
Fire song, Wind song, Earth song (difficult mode) - these 3 skills all do high dmg, but they have 4 sec cast time and 300 sec refresh time before you can cast them again. So they’re only good for 1 hitting things, or pking. Most people max 1, and get lvl 1 of another one.

Special: Hidden power - max
Energy conversion - converts sp to mp, lvl 2
Lifesaver - lvl 1, or max if you pk
Hellfire - free choice, a decent AoE
Earth Split - free choice, decent AoE
Tornado - max
Death Announcement - useless, 1800 sec delay way too long, and it doesn’t work on a lot of things
Disease - meh
Natural Curse - removes elem. resis, some ppl love it, some ppl find it utter waste of sp, when maxed, 80% chance of success
Curse - lvl 2
Soul Collection (difficult mode) - good final pk hit
Secret Technique (difficult mode) - turns everyone in your party except your self invisible, bad skill lol, the mage should not become a target XD
Carmani’s Fury (ultimate mode) - meh

Items:

A mage can equip either a staff or daggers.

Normal mode — staff for sure
Later modes — staff w/ wisdom lapis, or dagger w/ int lapis

A dagger hits lower dmg, but it’s faster and misses less.

The better the gear, the more slots it has for you to seal in lapis. mages should focus on wis, rec, and dex lapis. tailor needs to individual builds - accentuate your strength, hide your weakness.

Mobs:

White - 6 or more levels -, no exp
Light Blue - 4 or 5 levels -, low exp
Blue - 2 or 3 levels -, some exp
Green - your level +/- 1, decent exp
Yellow - 2 or 3 levels +, good exp
Orange - 4 or 5 levels +, better exp
Red - 6 or 7 levels +, great exp
Pink - 8 or 9 levels +, amazing exp
Grey - 10 or more levels +, suicide!

Most mobs except for the undead have elemental resistance.

fire >> wind >> earth >> water >> fire

PvP Strategies

In my opinion, mages are more of a PvE class that is also amazingly effective in group PvP. Stay behind everyone else, unleash crazy AoE’s, and be aware of assassins and hunters. The mage, unfortunately, does not do well in individual PvP.

Vs. Priest/Oracle - not much strategy, just hit them with your highest hitting spells, and try to root them. They will throw spells back at you. Priests/oracles have tons of wisdom, so you do low dmg on them, takes very long time to bash their hp. How much wis and hp each party has determines how long the fight will last. Sad thing to say, but you will probably lose. In fact, you can even try switching to daggers and stab them instead because some of them have so much wisdom that your spells just doesn’t do much.

Vs. Ranger/Assassin - ouchie. Ranger/Assassins are probably the best classes for PvP. They interrupt your skills, can make you faint (status effect), kick you, and be invisible and stalk you. You can only run… and they even have a skill that boosts speed. boohoo. Just don’t let them get close to you, root them, etc. It all depends on how well you use your PvP skills. You do have some chance against them.

Vs. Archers/Hunters - pretty bad as well =( they have this skill that drains your mana. And then you’re kinda screwed. However, if they don’t drain your mana, then you have a chance! (because some of them save their skill points, and don’t bother to lvl that skill =P) Run close to them! Because ranged dmg gets reduced to almost half when you’re standing right next to them. Then root, and bash them like crazy.

Vs. Fighter/Warrior - the second their name appears, runaway! then root, hellfire, all 3 wind spells (instant cast ones), while you run some more to give yourself possible another chance to repeat aforementioned spells. It all depends on keyboard control ^^

—————

I. Guide Information:
This guide is composed of information (derived from various sources from across the public world-wide web) about the MMORPG Shaiya. It will be updated within the forums of ShaiyaHQ. Upon being updated, notice will be given of newly added sections. Order of sectioning is subject to change (at which point the table of contents will be adjusted to refelect said changes.) Any attempt to copy, manipulate, or add to this text is freely allowed and encouraged.

II. Races:
Human–
Humans include the classes of Fighter, Defender, and Priest. Newest to the lands of Tios are the Humans. Spiritual, strong, and swift, the Humans are adept at nearly every job that Tios has to offer. However, their power truly lies in their strength of body and spiritual nature. Born Fighters and Priests, the Humans are natural complement to the magical Elves. Brought to Tios by the Goddesses, the hope was that the Humans would help restore balance and unity. Unfortunately, the Humans got swept up into the chaos, and the Elves were the first to assist them.

Elf–
The elves race includes the classes of Archer, Ranger, and Mage. Methodical, deliberate, and smart are just some of the words used to describe the Elves. The Elves, like the Vail, are descendents from the Dumianas. The Laws of Nature are very important to the Elves, and their society relies on order and discipline. The Elves are in constant conflict in their attempts to keep the monsters of Tios outside of their borders. The magical Elves are the chosen of the Goddess of Light.

Nordein (Deatheaters)–
Deatheater race includes the classes warrior, guardian, and hunter. Towards the end of the great war, the Goddesses created the Nordein to help protect Tios. The Nordein, or “Deatheaters,” have every appearance of being brutish and unintelligent, violent and aggressive. But this race of Ancients is a book that should not be judged by its cover. In the wars that followed their appearance on Tios, the Nordien acquired a disdain for magic and choose not to use it often, if at all. This is likely one reason that they sided with the spiritual Vail, and not the magical Elves.

Vail –
Vail race includes the classes assassin, oracle, and pagan. Intelligent and swift, cunning and spiritual, the Vail are the chosen of the Goddess of Darkness. One of the two races that are descendents of the Dumianas, the Vail, while exotic and mysterious in appearance, are not the war-like people most expect them to be. Ferocious and treacherous only when necessary, the Vail seek to find a state of equilibrium in their surroundings. Not as strong as some of the other races, the Vail use stealth and the mystical arts when in battle.

III. Difficulty Modes
Q: What are the difficulty modes?
A: (Exact values are taken from Shaiya in other regions and are tentative)
1. Easy: You get 5 Stat Points, and 3 Skill Points for each level. Max lvl 30 without Special Skill. Level up speed: very fast
2. Normal : You get 5 Stat Points, and 3 Skill Points for each level. Max lvl 60 with Special Skill. Level up speed: normal
3. Hard: You get 7 Stat Points, and 4 Skill Points for each level. Max lvl 60 with Special and Hard Skill. Level up speed: slow (You must have a Normal character of lvl 50 to unlock Hard Mode)
4. Ultimate (same Hardcore in Diablo 2): You get 9 Stat Points, and 4 Skill Points for each level. Max lvl 60 with Special, Hard, Ultimate Skill. Level up speed: slow (same as Hard mode)(You must have Hard character lv 50 to unlock Ultimate Mode). When your character dies, it is lost forever.

Q: Will there be items you can buy from the mall or aquire to save you in case you die in ultimate mode? How do you get those items/skills?
A: Yes. There are resurrection stones that you can carry when in Ultimate Mode to save your skin. (These will be available in the Item Mall) Priests and Oracles can also resurrect fallen comrades.

Q: My connection is very good but if someone hits a pole in my neighborhood, and it goes out, causing my character to die, do I still have to start over?
A: You have 3 minutes in game to get resurrected if you die. After that, your character is gone. We are trying to implement a process that will allow a 2-hour window after Ultimate Character death to bring them back… but it hasn’t been implemented yet.

Q: Is there a different server for each mode or is everybody grouped together?
A: All lumped together. You have to unlock each mode as you go, so segregation is improbable… besides, it’s no fun that way.

Q: Why play ultimate mode and risk dying when you can just play hard mode with no risk?
A: Ultimate mode are the best characters in the game… and they have the highest risk. This is where players can truly say they are the best….

Q: If I die to another player in the PvP arena or from world PvP, do I still lose my character permanently in ultimate mode?
A: No, you only suffer permadeath from PvE combat deaths.

Q: If another player attacks me while I am fighting a mob, but does not kill me, so the mob kills me, do I still suffer from permadeath while playing ultimate mode?
A: It’s not possible for another player to attack you in the game world, unless you agree to a duel, or are in the PvP arena.

IV. Custom Resolution Setting:

How to Set Custom Resolution
1-Find your Shaiya folder.

2-In that folder you need to open the file named CONFIG.INI with a word processor like notepad or wordpad. Make a backup copy before editing in case you mess something up, if so, just delete the messed up file and replace with your backup.

3-You then look at the top and you’ll easilly see the resolution configuration(SIZE_X=…. and SIZE_Y=…. where x is width and y is height).

4-Change the numbers to your needs.

5-Save your changes and close the file.

6-Start the game, voilà!

(on older computers this could drop the framerate and maybe make it unplayable if the max resolution for your monitor is too high for your videocard)

IMPORTANT: Do not go over your monitors max resolution, and do not input settings you do not know about, the game already gives some good resolution choices if you’re not familiar with editing anything.
